Ketamine Assisted Therapy in Colorado

Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP) offers a safe, legal, and highly effective treatment for our deepest entrenched patterns. Learn more about ketamine and how it might support your journey.

Break through to healthier relationships.

Talk therapy hasn’t worked. Or even if it has, you find yourself hitting limits. You’re frustrated to confront the same patterns over and over. Longing for relief from the attachment wounds or long-held shame that’s keeping you stuck in your past. That’s where ketamine-assisted therapy (also called KAP) can be so powerful.

While ketamine for mental health is becoming more widely explored, ketamine has been used as a safe and effective anesthetic since the 1970s. Over the past two decades, researchers have studied ketamine’s antidepressant properties and its impact on our neural pathways.

Like other psychedelic therapies, ketamine works by inducing what’s called a non-ordinary state of consciousness. I’ve often explained to clients that it “helps you get out of your own way.” The combination of Ketamine’s biochemical effect and the guidance of a trained therapist can help interrupt entrenched negative patterns in a way that other therapies simply can’t. Most patients find they’re able to view challenges from new and often more insightful angles. What comes with that? A renewed, more secure relationship with yourself and with others.

Whether you’re facing recurring depression, anxiety, trauma, relationship challenges, low self-worth, shame, challenges with gender identity, or any other long-held issue, the science supports that ketamine can offer a powerful pathway to new perspectives.

How it Works

  • Consultation

We’ll begin with a free 20-minute consultation to get a sense of your goals for therapy and explore the possibility of working together.

  • Intake session

This session is intended to build trust, and safety and set the container for therapeutic work. We will more deeply explore your history, values, and goals.

  • Psychiatrist Referral

A trusted holistic psychiatrist will review your medical and mental health history and answer any questions you may have as it relates to your process. If you are medically cleared, she will write you a prescription (with a dosage range) that we will use for your treatment.

  • Preparatory Sessions

Begin orienting to medicine work and grounding deeper into the therapeutic container and relationship. We’ll review intentions, expectations, and desires for treatment and anchor into resources that will support you.

  • 6-8x Ketamine Experimental

These are the medicine sessions. The amount of experiential sessions will depend on how your body metabolizes the medicine and how we use your prescription. Expect sessions to be between 100 minutes and 2 hours.

  • Integration Sessions

We will schedule 50-minute integration sessions within 72 hours of your ketamine experiential while your brain is still in a state of high neuroplasticity. This allows you to more deeply internalize the experience and ensures that you are getting the most out of your treatment.

  • I will refer you to a trusted holistic psychiatrist who will review your medical and mental health history and assess for your safe participation in Ketamine Assisted Therapy. If cleared, she will write you a prescription (with a dosage range), which allows us to work in lower and higher doses depending on your desires, intentions, and how your body metabolizes the medicine.

Most clients begin treatments at the lower range of their prescription and ease into the higher doses.

You will self-administer the medicine in lozenge form intraorally.

  • Ketamine has been studied and is particularly effective in treating depression, anxiety, trauma, relationship challenges, low self-worth, shame, challenges with identity, or any other long-held issues.

While ketamine is safe, there are some conditions that might not be well suited for the treatment. These include pregnancy or nursing, hypertension or other cardiovascular issues, hyperthyroidism, active mania, a history of psychosis or schizophrenia, an allergy or addiction to ketamine, a recent traumatic brain injury, severe sleep apnea or other respiratory issues, and someone with an ongoing substance addiction. This list isn’t exhaustive, so if you have any doubts, please let me know so we can explore it before beginning treatment.

  • KAP facilitates a non-ordinary state of consciousness that allows you to see things (and yourself) from new perspectives, interrupt harmful patterns of thinking, and ultimately create new neural pathways that support your healing and vitality.

I collaborate with you to decide on a dosage for the session within the range of your prescription. You will self-administer the medicine.

At lower doses, you are more capable of engaging in the therapeutic relationship and will likely notice a floating or swimming feeling. We can use the space to process verbally or somatically, or you can tune into the experience in a more internal way. At higher doses, the medicine will invite you into a deeper and more internal state. You may notice a sense of weightlessness, floating/flying, or disconnecting from your body. I hold the space for you to enter safe and confident surrender so that the medicine can guide you into a healing experience.

Expect medicine sessions to be between 100 minutes and 2 hours. Plan to take it easy for the rest of your day after sessions and plan for a ride home. Participating in activities that support integration can be helpful.

  • I bill my rate of $180/50 minutes for all medicine, preparatory, and integration sessions.

  • I am not contracted with any insurance companies at this time. I am able to provide you with a super bill that you can submit to your insurance company for potential reimbursement, though this will depend on your out of network benefits. I cannot guarantee any sort of reimbursement and it is up to you to confirm your benefits with your insurance provider. I am considered private-pay.

  • One of the reasons people love working with Ketamine is that it doesn't require you to taper off most anti-depressant medications, the exception being MAOI drugs. Ultimately, the prescriber I refer you to will review your medical history, medications, and potential contraindications and assess your safe participation in order to make sure KAP is an appropriate fit.

  • Expect medicine sessions to be 100 minutes to 2 hours. We will meet for non-medicine integration sessions in between and within 72 hours of our medicine work. We will collaborate to determine the most appropriate frequency that corresponds with your therapeutic goals and capacity. For clients working through acute symptoms, it can be beneficial to meet for medicine sessions 2x a week to begin. Other clients may find a weekly or bi-monthly cadence more congruent with their intentions and lifestyle.
